Pre-Baiting Before Setting the Trap Pre-baiting the trap is recommended. To do this lock up the trap doors so no animals can get in. Place the trap in an area where you want to trap. Spread your bait around the trap and lay a trail of bait going up to the trap entrance roughly every 2 inches. This should be done for 2-4 days to get the animals familiar with the trap and the feeding area. It is also recommended that dirt, grass or leaves be placed covering the bottom of the trap so the animals do not have to walk across the welded wire when entering the trap. Keep traps out all year. Squirrels will come out on warm days. It is a lot easier to catch them when food, crops, etc. are less abundant. Different types of rodents can be caught with this trap. Setting the Trap To set the trap place it in the desired location you wish to trap. Place the trap flat on the ground. Make sure the arrow and logo on the side panels of the trap are facing the proper way. If the trap is placed upside down it will not work properly. Open the two different locked doors on each of the entrances. Set the doors open by locking the hook on the spring around the side of the trap so that they cannot swing shut. Make sure the animal release door on the top of the cage is closed tightly with the two release door rods. Each of these rods should be about 45 degrees from the cross wire and attached as shown. Place plenty of bait in the middle of the trap and a little in front of all tunnel entrances. You may have to stake the trap down on opposite corners using a spike. Some squirrels will push the trap to gain access to the bait. There is a door in each of the entrances that closes with gravity. The animal will walk through the door toward the bait. Once inside, its instinct tells the animal to go to the corners and try to escape, therefore trapping the animal. Transporting and Releasing Animals Use proper protection when handling traps with live animals. When transporting animals be sure to close each of the two outside doors.
